DISCUSS PART I AND DISCUSS PART II (2008)

Sugar, water, 100 meter cable, amplifier, metal box 30cm x 30cm x 20cm, contact microphone.

Two shows opened in one week. The first on the 4th of March on the Sculpture Court balcony at ECA, the second in the Intermedia studios in the same building. Both exhibitions closed on the same day.

I attached a contact microphone to the railings of the balcony by encasing it in within 20cm2 cube of sugar. The whole railing then became, in effect, a contact microphone. The viewer of the work was aware there was a cable running from behind it but was presumably unaware that there was a microphone inside. The title of this work is Discuss Part I.

The cable attached to the contact microphone upstairs fed down to the Intermedia studios for the exhibition which opened a few days later. The excessivly long cable was attached to an amplifier concealed in a metal container filled with granulated sugar. The title of this work is Discuss Part II.
